Remote working is here to stay.
Hybrid working solutions are the preferred mode of operation among employees and business alike. This is according to the most recent survey of remote working carried out by Buffer.
Having been tracking remote working since 2018, Buffer has discovered that in the aftermath of Covid 19, attitudes have completely changed. In a survey of 2,118 people from 16 different countries, over half (57%) said they had been working remotely for 2 years or fewer.
A huge 97% said they would recommend remote working to others and would like to continue working this way.
Why is that?
People like remote working because of the flexibility – of their time, to choose where they work, where they live – and the cost savings that not commuting allows them.
Almost half of those surveyed (49%) said they currently work under a fully remote structure, with 72% saying their companies were planning a permanent remote working option.
But what about the downsides of remote working?
According to Forbes, there are concerns among both employees and employers alike that remote working can come with its problems.
For example, when do you stop? Where is the cut-off time between your work day and home life when you’re already at home? It can be difficult to unplug when you don’t physically leave the office at a set time at the end of each day.
Employees can also run the risk of feeling isolated when working alone at home every day. There is no office camaraderie or support network to rely on and some feel this also has implications on their paths up the careers ladder.
How do you balance the two, then?
Businesses are now waking up to the fact remote working is here to stay and that there needs to be a solution that can provide that sought-after flexibility whilst still operating as a functional unit.
Hybrid working solutions are key.
For example, the use of co-working spaces in areas close to where employees live. Technology for promoting seamless collaboration such as Microsoft Teams, Managed IT Services and Unified Communications solutions.
